I live in the country just outside of Eugene, Oregon with my boyfriend and our two kitties, our dog (George), our 2 cows, 1 bunny, 1 pig, and my feral cat (Jupiter). I draw a lot of my inspiration from living out and surrounded by so much earth, my goal is to live as self-sufficient as we can and to give back to the earth as much as possible. I am so blessed to live under the stars and the trees. I live under the pink skies and the orange sunsets, the damp skies and forgotten moss hold me and comfort me. As a child, I would give the trees names around my house, and imagine their backstories and give them personalities. I had a worm farm also, and I have always felt most at home in the presence of my imagination and within nature.
I paint in oils on canvas and the real treat about painting for me is the procedure. I savor the repetition and mixing paint and using the different solvents and mediums, and having all my tools in their respective spots. It’s the only thing I can bet on at the end of the day.
I feel very challenged writing about my work, putting words to my dedication, to my craft, the honest monologue of my soul, is proving difficult. This is why I paint. I have never been good at speaking my feelings, I am getting better, there are infinite nuances and overwhelming emotions to convey, that sometimes must be conveyed visually. I see the world around me in shadows and values and vivid color, I finally feel peaceful. I savor the meticulous process of oil paints, the color mixing and utensils and the repetition brings me joy. I use oil on canvas, and occasionally cardboard or wood. These pieces encourage the idea of wishful thinking, with one’s honest, true self. I employ bold, but peaceful color palettes in order to invoke a sense of wonder and curiosity. My vision is to connect with others, by expressing my world in a way that is zen, harmonious, playful and free. This is my recent body of work, I observed, going forth into the world with clarity, courage and understanding.
My recent work has been vibrant, hopeful, and peaceful. My work takes a jovial approach to the valuable, often overlooked, chapters of our everyday life, and the details within. I explore with outright color palettes and curiosity, which you can see through my work.
Inspiration is everywhere, if you know where to look. Some things will catch my eye, most of the time I paint nature and I like to paint important memories from my life, pivotal times I've experienced, things I don’t want to forget. Painting is a way for me to fathom my day to day, and a lot of my subject material is something from that stage of my life.
